The Wisdom of Ants
Tiny Creatures. Timeless Wisdom.

Scripture:
“The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer.”
— Proverbs 30:25
Devotional Thought
At first glance, ants seem like one of the least significant creatures on earth. Tiny. Weak. Easy to crush. Yet God holds them up as a model of wisdom.
Solomon—or more precisely, Agur, the writer of this proverb—calls them "a people not strong," and yet they prepare. They live with purpose. They work ahead of time for what they cannot see yet. They don’t need a boss, a ruler, or a crisis to spring into action. They simply do what needs to be done.
In recovery and in faith, we often wait until the storm hits before we pray, change, or take responsibility. But the ant teaches us that wisdom is proactive, not reactive. It builds in the quiet season. It prepares in the summer for the cold season to come.
You may feel weak. You may not have support. But in Christ, you have the Spirit of wisdom. You don’t need to be strong—you need to be willing. Your daily choices—though small like the ant—build a future that’s far bigger than what you can see today.
Spiritual Truths from the Ant
Weakness doesn’t equal uselessness.
Preparation is a form of wisdom and worship.
Obedience now produces fruit later.
Working quietly and consistently matters more than flashy strength.
Coaching Questions for Journaling
Where in my life have I been waiting for motivation instead of taking responsibility?
What “summer” season am I in right now, and how can I prepare for winter?
Am I consistent in my recovery walk, or only when things get hard?
What habits can I build now that will sustain me later?
Who is in my life right now that I can work alongside like the ants do in community?
Prayer
Abba Father, give me the heart as the humble ant, disciplined, and forward-thinking. I confess that I often wait too long to act, pray, or obey. Help me to see today as a gift to prepare for what You are building in my life. Teach me to work faithfully, even when no one is watching. Strengthen my resolve, not by my might, but by Your Spirit. In Jesus name, amen.
