You're So Riddled With Anxiety And Can't Take Medications Now

What can you do?

DEVO:

Anxiety can feel like a tidal wave—tight chest, racing thoughts, sleepless nights, and that constant sense of dread. For some, medication helps manage these symptoms. But what if you can’t take medication due to these medications being addictive and you're in recovery? Maybe there are personal convictions? Does that mean you're stuck?

Absolutely not.

Scripture never promises a life free from anxious moments—but it does offer something far stronger than a pill. That is the peace of God. His peace passes all human understanding. Unlike man-made solutions, His peace doesn’t numb you or drug you, or put a temporary bandage on the symptoms. It reaches deeper. His peace guards your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.

The pathway to that peace isn’t through striving. It’s through surrender. When you feel overwhelmed, God invites you to come—not with perfect words, but with open hands. He asks you to bring everything to Him: every fear, every thought, every “what if.”

In exchange, He gives you something supernatural. Peace that surpasses understanding. In other words, it doesn’t make sense to the world. People may look at you and say, “How are you so calm right now?” And the only answer will be: Jesus.

It’s not easy at first —but it is real. And it’s available to all believers.

SCRIPTURES FOR MEDITATION:

  • “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.” — Psalm 56:3

  • “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” — Isaiah 26:3

  • “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

  • “In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.” — Psalm 94:19

TODAY'S GOALS:

Take one practical step toward peace today. When anxiety starts to rise, stop and breathe deeply. Speak out loud a verse from today’s devotional. Refuse to carry what Jesus died to relieve you of.

FOR INTROSPECTION & JOURNALING:

  1. What are the top three things causing you anxiety right now?

  2. Have you been honest with God about them—or have you been trying to “manage” them on your own?

  3. What does it mean to you personally that God's peace can guard your heart and mind?

PRAYER:

Abba Father,
You see the anxiety I battle every day. You know I don’t have the option of medications, and some days I feel powerless. But I thank You that You are my Great Physician and Prince of Peace. Help me to come to You first, to lay every burden and worry at Your feet, and to believe that You will keep me steady in the storm. Teach me to breathe in Your Word and exhale every fear. Guard my heart and mind today, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

— Philippians 4:6–7
