Walk in Wisdom, Live in His Light

Godly wisdom and understanding are not just gifts—they are the path to life, healing, and right choices.

DEVO

"Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding."

Proverbs 4:7

God doesn’t suggest wisdom—He commands it. In Proverbs, wisdom is not merely good advice; it’s life-or-death truth. Wisdom guards, promotes, preserves, and exalts. Understanding helps us apply that truth with discernment.

Too many of us live by instinct or emotion, but that is a path to destruction. Godly wisdom causes us to stop, seek His Word, and ask, “What would glorify God?” Understanding gives us the clarity to act on that wisdom.

If you’re in recovery, parenting, leadership, or simply trying to live upright in a broken world, you cannot afford to be without wisdom. You need more than knowledge. You need to know what is true and how to apply it.

SCRIPTURES:

  1. James 1:5
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."

  2. Proverbs 3:13-18
"Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding..."
(Read full section—it describes wisdom as more precious than rubies.)

  3. Colossians 1:9
"...that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding."

  4. Psalm 111:10
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments."

  5. Proverbs 2:6
"For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding."

FOR DISCUSSION:

  1. What’s the difference between worldly wisdom and godly wisdom?

  2. How can you recognize the fruit of true understanding in your life?

  3. Is there a decision you’re facing right now that requires divine wisdom?

  4. Do you fear the Lord in a way that reveres His Word and values His correction?

  5. What has been the result in your life when you leaned on your own understanding?

PRAYER:

Abba Father,
I ask You for wisdom—not just to know what’s right but to do what is right in Your eyes. Give me understanding to see beneath the surface and discern Your will. Guard me from leaning on my own understanding. Lead me by Your Word. May my life reflect the beauty of walking in Your wisdom, not in my own way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

GOAL FOR TODAY:

Actively pause and seek God's wisdom before making any significant decision today. Ask yourself, “What does the Word say about this?”

INTROSPECTIVE QUESTIONS & JOURNALING PROMPTS:

  • What were the outcomes when you chose God's wisdom over your own thoughts or feelings?

  • Pray and write about what you feel confused or uncertain about right now? Then, write out James 1:5 in your own words.

  • How can you grow in understanding this week?
