Modesty Matters
Dressing with Honor in a World That Undresses Everything

“In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation… but which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.”
—1 Timothy 2:9–10
DEVO
In today’s world, modesty is mocked. Revealing more is celebrated. Tight is trendy. Bold is beautiful. But God’s people are called to be set apart—in our hearts and in our appearance.
The way we dress speaks before we ever open our mouths. It tells the world something about our values, our priorities, and who we serve.
This applies to everyone: men, women, and children. No one gets a pass. The Bible says that our entire being—body, soul, and spirit—belongs to the Lord. That means how we dress is a spiritual matter, not just a fashion one.
DRESSING WITH PURPOSE... NOT FOR ATTENTION
Modesty isn’t about shame. It’s about honor—honoring God, honoring ourselves, and honoring others. It’s not just about covering up—it’s about what you're pointing people to. Are your clothes drawing attention to your body… or to your character?
Men: are you dressing with humility, or with pride and power?
Women: are you dressing to inspire lust or to reflect the Lord?
Parents: are you protecting your children’s innocence by teaching them how to honor God with their clothing?
“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you… and you are not your own?”
—1 Corinthians 6:19 (NKJV)
You don’t belong to fashion trends. You don’t belong to public opinion. You belong to Jesus.
MODESTY IS NOT JUST FOR FELLOWSHIP
God doesn't just see you at church or fellowship—He walks with you in Walmart, at school pickup, at the gym, and while you're scrolling online. What you wear on Monday matters just as much as what you wear on weekends.
We must stop separating our wardrobes into “church clothes” and “everything else.” We are Christ’s representatives at all times. Our clothes should reflect purity, humility, and reverence—at all times.
MODESTY BEGINS IN THE HEART
No dress code can make someone holy. But a holy heart will always express itself with honor. A woman who knows her worth in Christ doesn’t need to expose herself for approval. A man who fears God doesn’t flaunt his body or wealth for status. A child trained in righteousness will learn early that their clothing matters to God.
Modesty is not about being outdated. It’s about being obedient.
TODAY'S GOAL:
Examine your wardrobe and your motives.
Are you dressing for admiration… or to bring honor to the Lord?
Ask Jesus to purify not just your closet, but your heart.
PRAYER:
Abba Father, I belong to You—body, soul, and spirit. Help me to dress in a way that honors You and protects others from temptation. Give me wisdom, understanding, discernment, and boldness to live modestly in a world that celebrates sensuality. Let the way I present myself reflect holiness, not vanity. Teach me how to raise my children to walk in honor, and help me live with integrity in public and in private. Thank You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
INTROSPECTION & JOURNALING:
Who am I dressing for—God or certain people?
In what ways do my clothes reflect humility, purity, and reverence?
How am I teaching my children to value modesty through my example?
Is there anything in my closet that dishonors the Lord and need to throw away?
How have I confused personal expression with worldly approval?
“Do not let your adornment be merely outward… rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”
