This Is What You Should Be Growing
These fruits are eternal.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22–23
DEVO
If I could look you in the eyes right now and say this gently but truthfully—I would ask you, what are you growing? You are always growing something. Whether it’s bitterness or love, chaos or peace, selfishness or kindness—something is taking root in your heart and bearing fruit.
The Holy Spirit doesn’t force fruit or Himself on anyone. He plants seeds and gives you the tools, but you have to water it daily by walking in Him. You have to pull the weeds that threaten to choke it out—like pride, anger, jealousy, and fear. That’s your part.
When someone bumps into your life, what spills out? Is it gentleness, or defensiveness? Joy, or sarcasm? Faithfulness, or compromise?
The Fruit of the Spirit isn’t just a list to memorize—it’s a mirror. And it’s how you can know if you're really walking with God.
This isn’t about being perfect—but it is about being transformed. If the Holy Spirit is truly living in you, you will not stay the same.
So look again.
Do you see growth?
WALK IN THE GARDEN:
Look up the following verses... read slowly and reflect:
Galatians 5:16–26 – Walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh
John 15:4–5 – Abiding in Christ so you bear much fruit
Matthew 7:17–20 – A good tree bears good fruit
Ephesians 4:29–32 – Replacing bitterness and anger with kindness and forgiveness
Romans 8:5–6 – The mind set on the Spirit is life and peace
KEY OBSERVATION:
The fruit is not “fruits” plural. It’s one unified result of walking in the Spirit—like a bunch of grapes, not separate apples and oranges.
You don’t work for this fruit. You walk with the Spirit and it grows from that relationship.
ASK YOURSELF THESE INTROSPECTIVE QUESTIONS:
Which of these 9 fruits do I see most clearly in my life right now?
Which fruit seems hardest for me—and why?
Am I spending enough time with the Holy Spirit to even give Him room to produce fruit?
What weeds in my life might be choking out His fruit?
SCRIPTURES FOR MEDITATION:
Psalm 1:1–3:
“Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.”
2 Corinthians 3:18:
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord,
are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory,
just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
Philippians 1:6:
“Being confident of this very thing,
that He who has begun a good work in you
will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
James 3:17–18
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable,
gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits,
without partiality and without hypocrisy.
Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”
YOUR GOAL TODAY:
Choose one fruit today you know God wants to grow more in your life.
Write it down. Speak it out.
Then intentionally practice it today—not in your strength, but by asking the Holy Spirit for help every time you're tempted to do the opposite.
By the end of the day, reflect: What changed when I walked with Him today?
PRAYER:
Abba Father, I don’t want to keep living by my flesh. I cetainly don’t want to appear religious... I want to truly walk with You and bear the kind of fruit that proves I belong to Jesus. Grow in me what I cannot produce on my own. Remove every weed in my heart that chokes out all of the fruits of Your Holly Spirit. Help me walk with You so closely that the fruit of Your presence is seen by everyone around me and felt by me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
