The Warhorse and the Warrior
Prepare for the fight and depend on God for the victory.

Scripture Focus:
“The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord.”
Proverbs 21:31 (NKJV)
Devotional Thought
The Bible doesn't rebuke us for preparing. It encourages it. Soldiers train. Farmers plant. Kings make war plans. Even horses are armored and battle-ready. But Proverbs 21:31 gives a critical reminder: Our preparation alone cannot save us.
You may be doing all the right things by having a recovery coach, attending support groups, reading Scripture, giving Jesus permission to keep you sober, setting boundaries, etc. Like the warhorse, you're geared up. But when the battle comes against temptation, shame, fear, or trauma, deliverance is not in your own strength, your own plan, or your history. Deliverance is of the Lord.
God honors preparation, but He demands dependence on Him by your voluntary submission and surrender. He wants your effort, yes, but He insists on your faith.
Recovery is a daily journey for a while, until you are totally healed. It requires you to be spiritually disciplined, emotionally resilient, and wisely guarded; however, ultimately, your victory does not come from how strong you are. It comes from how surrendered you are.

Coaching Questions For Journaling
What areas of my recovery have I been relying on my own strength too much?
How can I prepare daily, yet still keep my dependence on God?
What does “deliverance is of the Lord” mean for my battle today?
How am I spiritually armored for the fight?
When was the last time I asked God to fight for me... not just with me?
Breakthrough Action Step
Write down two things you’re doing well in preparation (such as prayer, routine, boundaries), and then write down how you're preparing in each of the two areas. Name one area where you need to surrender and submit to Jesus to control and then invite His Holy Spirit power to deliver you.
🙏 Prayer
Abba Father, I prepare myself for the battles I face, but I confess now that my victory is mine through You and Your Holy Spirit. My heart leans too often on my own strength, strategy, or knowledge. Today, I lay that down at Your feet. I choose to trust You above all things. Make me like the horse... strong, trained, and ready. Please remind me daily that it is You who my battles belong to and it is You who wins my battles. Deliver me, O God, not just from the enemy without, but from the pride within. In Jesus Holy name, amen. I give You praise and glory.
