Don’t Borrow Tomorrow’s Burden
God’s grace meets you one day at a time—don’t outrun it.

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Matthew 6:34
DEVO:
Worry is like spiritual quicksand. The more you sink into thoughts of “what if,” the harder it becomes to move forward. And in recovery, that kind of mental spiral can lead right back to old habits, fear-based decisions, or even relapse. But Jesus, with His unmatched wisdom, gave us a rescue tool: Stay in today.
You were never meant to carry tomorrow’s weight on today’s shoulders.
Jesus didn’t tell us to ignore the future. Jesus told us not to fear it. God is already there. When He gives us grace, it’s for this moment. Not next week. Not five years from now. Just today. Like manna in the wilderness, His provision is fresh each morning (Lamentations 3:23).
Yes, the future may be full of unknowns. But what is known is this: God is faithful. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He already sees the road ahead, and He promises to walk it with you.
So take a breath. Take today. Leave tomorrow in His hands.
MEDITATION VERSES:
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.”
Psalm 55:22
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”
Philippians 4:6
“So do not fear, for I am with you… I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10
Give us this day our daily bread.”
Matthew 6:11
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION & JOURNALING:
What “tomorrow” fears are robbing you of peace today?
Identify burdens that you are carrying that God never asked you to carry?
How can you practically shift your focus back to the present?
What ways have you seen God come through for you in past unknowns?
What does your answer to #4 above say about your future?
What would change if you truly believed God's grace is enough for today?
TODAY'S GOAL
Write down the top three things that are causing you anxiety about the future. Then, surrender each one to God in prayer. Speak out loud: “I choose to stay in today. God is already in my tomorrow.” Let that truth set you free from fear. God doesn't lie... He can't.
PRAYER:
Abba Father, You told me not to worry about tomorrow, but sometimes I forget. I look too far ahead and lose sight of Your presence in this moment. Help me to trust You moment by moment. Teach me to live in the now, to walk in today’s grace, and to believe You are holding every unknown. In Jesus name, Amen.
