Are You Bitter About Something?

You Weren’t Meant to Carry This

Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;"

Hebrews 12:15-16

DEVO

Let’s talk about what’s eating you up inside. I can tell you’ve been hurt. I don’t need the details. I just know it’s still living inside you. Bitterness doesn’t scream... it simmers. And even if no one else sees it, you can feel it.

But here’s the truth: bitterness is not punishing them. Bitterness is punishing you.
It’s poisoning your peace. It’s weakening your prayers. And most of all, it’s blocking your addiction recovery and healing.

Jesus didn’t ask you to pretend it didn’t hurt. He’s asking you to release it to Him. Forgiveness doesn’t say what they did was okay. It says you won’t let it define you anymore.

📖 Supporting Scriptures:

  • Ephesians 4:31–32 – “Let all bitterness… be put away… forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

  • James 3:14–16 – “...where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”

  • Romans 12:19 – “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

🧠 Introspective Questions:

  • Who do I still feel or s how anger or pain toward?

  • How has bitterness affected my relationship with Jesus?

  • What will it take for me to be ready to trust God with this wound?

🎯 Goal for Today:

Write down the name of the person or people you’ve been holding bitterness against. Pray for them today by name, asking God to help you forgive and release it.

🙏 Prayer:

Lord, I’ve held on to pain because it made me feel safe. But I see now that bitterness is only hurting me. I choose to let it go... not because they deserve it, but because You forgave me. Pull this root out of my heart, and replace it with peace. Teach me to live free, unchained, and whole. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
